The Highway Material Inventory Database lets you account for sand, gravel, aggregate, asphalt, steel and other materials used in production of highways, streets, roads or pavement. You can document transactiions that maintain the amount of each product bought, sold, received, made, lost or used. The Main menu shows the version number of the database. Click on the version number to see where tables are linked and other troubleshooting and contact information. Buttons have underlined hotkeys so Alt-R opens the Report form like clicking the Report button. Updates are normally performed by sending a link to you via email with a summary of the changes. Follow the link and unzip the file onto your server in the same folder where your data tables are located. Double click on the database to create a shortcut. A super user should then run the new version on the server. Answer Yes when asked if you want to tell others the new version is available. When other users log into the database, they will be offered the new version. If they answer Yes, the database will close and they can reopen the database in about 20 seconds when the copy operation is complete. This update process also distributes the MDW file, where encrypted user accounts are stored, so any user can log in from any PC. Installation of the database is easy. Make a c:\work folder on the user's PC, map the drive letter to the server, and copy two files, hwy.mdb and hwy_.mdw to c:\work. Double click on hwy.mdb to create a shortcut on the desktop. Of course, the user must have Access installed and a valid userid in the database. To customize the shortcut to a specific user, right-click and select Properties. Change user in the far right of the Target to the user's userid. You may need to enable macros to avoid security warnings.
